Firehouse Fireside Chat

Hello friend and readers: Old Firehouse Books in Ft. Collins, CO has kindly agreed to host virtual event with yours truly in conversation with Colorado fantasy author, Brian Naslund, author of the Dragons of Terra series   The event will be held on  Tues. Aug. 11 at 7:PM Mountain Time and you can find all about how to attend HERE.  We will be discussing our most recent books.

Sorcery of a Queen is the second in Brian Naslund's Dragons of Terra series and is an action-packed fantasy adventure.

"Driven from her kingdom, the would-be queen now seeks haven in the land of her mother, but Ashlyn will not stop until justice has been done. Determined to unlock the secret of powers long thought impossible, Ashlyn bends her will and intelligence to mastering the one thing people always accused her of, sorcery.

Meanwhile, having learned the truth of his mutation, Bershad is a man on borrowed time. Never knowing when his healing powers will drive him to a self-destruction, he is determined to see Ashlyn restored to her throne and the creatures they both love safe."

The Last Uncharted Sky is described as Alexander Dumas meets Jules Verne and is the epic conclusion to Curtis Craddocks' Risen Kingdoms trilogy.

"Isabelle and Jean-Claude undertake an airship expedition to recover a fabled treasure and claim a hitherto undiscovered craton for l'Empire Celeste. But Isabelle, as a result from a previous attack that tried to subsume her body and soul, suffers from increasingly disturbing and disruptive hallucinations. Disasters are compounded when the ship is sabotaged by an enemy agent, and Jean-Claude is separated from the expedition.

In a race against time, Isabelle must figure out how to ward off her ailment before it destroys her and reunite with Jean-Claude to seek the fabled treasure as ancient secrets and a royal conspiracy threaten to undo the entire realm."

I look Forward to seeing as many of you as possible

Writing in the Time of Covid

2020 has been a strange year, and yes that feels like an understatement. The whole world is in a state of dynamic suspension, trying to find some functional equilibrium in the face of a pandemic.

Life here at Chateau Craddock has been hectic and stressful.  Thankfully, I still have a day job, though it has mostly been reduces to COVID mitigation, constant cleaning and disinfecting and trying to prevent people from getting sick. This has not done wonders for my writing schedule. Sometimes a whole week will pass when I'm too drained to do anything more creative than mash buttons on a video game.

That doesn't mean I've been entirely unproductive. With the Risen Kingdoms drawing to a close,  I've started work on a new story set in a new world with spells and six shooters  in an old-west type setting, I am calling it a frontier fantasy.  This is to distinguish it from the weird west genre, which is more horror-centric. It's be filled with action, adventure, exploits and intrigue. Who know's maybe there will be a little romance in there as well.

To give you a hint of what's to come I present you the first line of the work in progress.

Chapter 1

Judging by the cloud of vultures darkening the sky above the butte, something enormous had died.

For a little bit more of a tease here is a sketch of the main character, Ajax, and her eldritch buzzard, Dingle

Until next time,

Stay safe and happy reading
